Jam jars
Treasure jars
Children love to collect things just for themselves and keep them in a safe place.
Help your child to make a treasure jar where they can store the things that they find. Search indoors and outdoors. What is safe to collect will depend on your child.
What goes in the jar and what is treasure will depend on your child and what interests them.
Your child could show you and tell you about what they have collected or keep them as special treasures for themselves. It is good for children to learn to share but also nice if they have some things that are just for them.
Instead you could hide objects for them to find and make it into a treasure hunt.

Ideas jars
Sometimes it can be hard to come up with ideas for things to do. Help your child to make an ideas jar.
Talk to them about what are their favourite things to do.

Write the ideas, or they could draw the ideas on sticks or paper.
You can add some new ideas and some ideas that will be a surprise for them.
Some suggestions include:
- sharing a book
- sing a song
- go for a walk
- build a brick tower
- build a den
- play hide and seek
Cress Head
Growing cress is easy and fun. It grows quickly as well.
Decorate your jar and make a character. You can then grow cress for the hair.
Fill you jar with soil. You can also grow cress on blotting or tissue paper.
Sow the seeds thinly and do not cover with soil. Cover the jar with paper and keep the soil moist. Remove the paper when the seeds start to germinate. This will be after a couple of days. Introduce words such as sow, soil, moist and germinate.
Cut the cress and use to flavour sandwiches.

Sound jars
Use your jar to collect objects from around the house that begin with the same letter. It is ok to collect items that don't fit in the jar.

Depending on your child, you could help them to write the letters and stick them on the lids. You may need to help them and cut out the letters.
You might want to choose to collect objects that start with a letter in their name.
