Tying shoelaces

Tying shoelaces is a complex skill. Your child needs to remember each step, follow them in the right order, and use fine motor and coordination skills to carry out the movements. This includes using both sides of their body together.
See Being able to use both sides of my body advice sheet.
It also takes attention, concentration and motivation. Most importantly, your child will need lots of opportunities to practise. Repetition helps build confidence and independence.
