About the UK Youth Parliament
The UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) was launched in 1999 to give young people a meaningful voice in the democratic system. It brings together more than 300 elected young people aged 11 to 18 from across the UK. Collectively, they represent the views of over 6.2 million young people, working together to campaign on issues that matter to them.
Visit the National Youth Agency website for more information about the UK Youth Parliament.
Members of Youth Parliament
Members of Youth Parliament are elected every 2 years to represent the views of young people living in their constituency. As part of the role, they:
- hold debates and make speeches
- meet with decision‑makers
- run campaigns
- share the concerns of local young people at regional and national forums
If an elected MYP turns 19 during their two‑year term, they must step down the day before their 19th birthday.
