Cumberland Youth Council

We are a group of young people aged 11 to 18, representing the voices of children and young people across Cumberland.

We campaign on issues that matter to young people in Cumberland, based on votes from the national Make Your Mark campaign.

We work with Cumberland Council colleagues, to help shape services for children and young people.

Campaigns

June 2025

After speaking with local LGBTQ+ youth group PiNC, our members took part in Carlisle’s Diversity Carnival. This showed our commitment to equality, diversity and understanding different cultures.

August 2025

In partnership with local leisure provider Better, we completed a “100k in a day” exercise bike challenge. We cycled 114k and raised £413 for Cumbria Youth Alliance’s Enrichment Fund, which supports care-experienced young people in Cumberland.

October 2025

We plan to raise more money for the Enrichment Fund and continue building our partnership with Better.

We’re also campaigning for affordable and accessible public transport for young people in Cumberland.

Working with the council

We regularly share our views with Cumberland Council staff on services that affect children and young people, from health and wellbeing to family support.

We welcome opportunities to work with council teams who want to hear youth voices.

UK Youth Parliament (UKYP)

Bobby Forbes, Cumberland’s elected Member of Youth Parliament, is an active member of Cumberland Youth Council.

He has taken part in several UKYP committees and is currently Chair of the 2025 Youth Select Committee inquiry.

Bobby is working with other Members of Youth Parliament across the UK to gather evidence and influence national youth policy.
