Vitamins for children

Vitamins and minerals are nutrients your baby's body needs in small amounts to work properly and stay healthy.
  • From 6 months to 5 years, it's recommended that all babies and children are given vitamins A, C and D every day.
  • It is recommended that breastfed babies are given a daily vitamin D supplement from birth. This is the case whether or not you're taking a supplement containing vitamin D yourself.
  • Babies consuming 500ml (about a pint) or more of their first infant formula a day shouldn't be given vitamin supplements. This is because the first infant formula already contains vitamin D and other nutrients.
  • Have a look at the NHS website to see which foods and vitamins should be included in your baby's diet.
